Golf Enters Final Round at Regional

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State is in 17th place heading into the final round of the NCAA West Regional at the Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis, Ore. The 27-team tournament is hosted by Oregon State and will conclude Saturday.
The Arizona State Sun Devils dominate the field with a 17 stoke lead over second place UC Irvine. Arizona State shot a 16-under 560 with UC Irvine shooting a 577. There is a tight bunch of teams in the middle of the field, with a nine-stroke separation between sixth-place Wake Forest and Fresno State. The Bulldogs have shot a 23-over 599.
Leading the Bulldogs for the second day was sophomore Nick Watney. Watney stands at T9 after shooting a 1-under 143 so far. Watney is also in a tie for the second lowest scorer from teams not in qualifying position which could garner him an individual qualification.
Junior Jonathon Echols shaved off four strokes from his first round to finish at T32 with a 4-over 148. Sophomore Daniel Timmons moved a couple of places into a T103 after shooting a 77, one stroke down from yesterday. Freshman Chad Spencer moves down to T111 after shooting 80 tallying a total of 156 (12+). Finishing off the Bulldog lineup, after being the second-lowest scorer yesterday, is junior Dustin Smith. Smith is in T120 after shooting an 83 for a 14-over 158 total.
The regional will conclude Saturday with the top-10 teams moving on to the finals in Durham, N.C. on May 30-June 2. The lowest two scoring individuals not on qualifying teams will also qualify to move on.
