Volleyball Fights Florida State in Five-Game Thriller

MALIBU, Calif. - The new rally scoring rule was displayed brilliantly in the Fresno State-Florida State match as each game was determined by two points.
Fresno State (0-1) came out on the short end after rallying from a 0-2 deficit. The Bulldogs dropped the first two games, 32-30 and 37-35, before winning game three and four, 33-31 and 32-30, and lost the deciding game, 18-16.
Fresno State was led by sophomore outside hitter Kara Verwey, who tallied a career-high 26 kills while adding 14 digs and four blocks. Senior middle blocker Shauna McQuaid added 12 kills and had four blocks. Freshman outside hitter Kristen Fenton debuted with a double-double after totaling 12 kills and tying for match-high honors in digs (21) with junior outside hitter Christy Burnett. Fenton also recorded seven block assists.
Florida State's Norisha Campbell had a match-high 29 kills and a match-high eight blocks.

The Bulldogs continue tournament play in the Howdy's Pepperdine Classic tomorrow morning with a 10:00 a.m. match against #17 Pepperdine before closing out invitational action against Northern Arizona at 7:00 p.m.
