FRESNO, Calif. - Some people collect stamps, other people collect coins but for outside hitter Stefanie Taelman it's sunglasses. Taelman is up to eight pairs of sunglasses and looks to make the collection grow even further. This hobby's beginnings can be traced to one television show.
"I was watching Le Femme Nikita one time," explains Taelman, "and I saw the main character wearing a cool pair of sunglasses." Taelman went out to buy those sunglasses and the rest is history.
So what does her teammates think of Taelman's unique collection? "They think it's cute," says Taelman. "They say it fits my personality because of the way I dress." With her squared blue-lens sunglasses, Taelman shows a flare for fashion as well as volleyball.
With the collection at eight one must wonder which pair will be the new addition to the collection. Taelman has already set her sights on some orange-brown colored lens sunglasses with beige colored frames. "I think my next pair will definitely be the oval, orange-brown colored lenses sunglasses. I like the way they look," says Taelman.
When the collection starts getting big Taelman already has a plan. The collection of sunglasses will become a decoration in her home. "I want to hang them all on a string from one wall to another in my kitchen," says Taelman.
