FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State fell against Nevada Saturday afternoon at the Central Unified Aquatics Complex. Despite the 167-121 loss, the Bulldogs posted solid times in most events.
"We did get outscored, but our goal was to swim tactically and proficiently and we did that," said Coach Irle. "We did much better today than we did last year at this point."
Sophomore Carolyn Wigginton paced FS with two top-2 finishes, including a first-place finish in the 100 Backstroke with a 57.51 mark.
The other Bulldog first-place finish belonged to junior Kristin Collins, who posted a 2:11.64 mark in the 200 Butterfly.
Senior Jessica Klenner posted three top-3 finishes at the dual meet. Klenner finished second in the 200 Butterfly and 1000 Freestyle events while finishing third in the 100 Butterfly.
"They're were a lot of events that we have improved on from last year," said Irle. "We're obviously not pleased with the results, but we know we're at a better stage now than from a year ago and we are going to continue to get better."
Sophomore Ashley Raleigh made her mark in the 1-meter diving event, finishing second with a 247.1 score.
The Bulldogs faltered in the 3-meter diving event, not posting a top-4 finish.
"Our diving took it on the chin a little but, it was because we were working on some new dives, so I'm not concerned about it," said Irle.
Sophomore Melissa Johnson also highlighted the Bulldog squad on the afternoon. The Vacaville, Calif. native finished the 100 Freestyle with a 53.11 mark, which missed first place by only .05 seconds and was good enough for second.
Fresno State returns to action Oct. 25-26 at the Pacific Swimming Invite.
