Men's Basketball Loses Knowlton For Season

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State men's basketball player Ashley Knowlton will miss the 2002-03 season with a torn ligaments in his left knee, suffered during practice Sunday.

A transfer from West Valley (Saratoga, Calif.) Junior College, Knowlton played for Bob Burton, currently a Fresno State assistant coach, last year and helped lead the Vikings to a Coast Conference championship. Knowlton attended Clovis West High School and played at Portland State his freshman year before winding up at WVJC as a sophomore.

"Losing Ashley is a blow to our team because he was one of our hardest workers and toughest kids," head coach Ray Lopes said. "He was beginning to solidify his role on our team as potentially our backup point guard. Because this area is a concern for me, it's a tough injury. But with Travis DeManby and Terry Pettis, we will find a way. And we are looking forward to Ashley's return for the 2003-04 season."
