Fresno State will be on the road this weekend, traveling to Washington and Oregon State. The Bulldogs are 6-5-4 all-time against the Huskies and the Beavers.
What Just Happened
The Bulldogs faced a pair of ranked foes in Pac-10 last weekend in No. 13 Cal and No. 1 Stanford. Despite holding Cal to only six shots, FS fell 1-0. It marked the fourth shutout loss for the Bulldogs this season. It also dropped Fresno State to 0-3 against ranked opponents this season. On Sunday, FS turned in its most impressive defensive effort this season, holding No. 1 Stanford to zerp goals on 12 shots in double overtime. The Bulldogs failed to score in their second consecutive match, however, and settled for the 0-0 tie in double overtime.
All-time Against Washington
The Huskies hold a 5-2-4 advantage against the Bulldogs all-time. The last three times the two have faced, they've split the matches, going 1-1-1.
Fresno State vs. Washington- The Last Time
(Sept. 27, 1999- SEATTLE, Wash.)
Fresno State and Washington faced in the second match of the Nike Husky Classic. The teams battled in an overtime thriller that saw the Huskies score the golden goal in the 111:20 minute in the second overtime period for the 2-1 victory. Noah Delgado accounted for the only Bulldog score of the day.
All-time Against Oregon State
The Bulldogs are undefeated against the Beavers all-time, holding a 4-0 advantage. The last time the two faced was 1995, when FS shut out OSU 4-0. It was the fourth straight season the teams played each other.
Give and Take
The Bulldogs were involved in yet another close match last weekend. The Bulldogs have lost, won or tied 12 of the first 13 matches by one or less goals. The only match that was decided by more than one goal was a 2-0 loss against Cal State Northridge. In the first 13 matches the Bulldog defense has been solid, posting a 1.2 GAA. Fresno State, however, is averaging less than one goal per match. FS has shut out its opponents three times this season and has held other teams to one goal five times. Fresno State has been shu tout five times this season and has been held to one goal four times this season.
Against Ranked Opponents
The Bulldogs are 0-3-1against ranked opposition this season. The Bulldogs went 0-1-1 last weekend against No. 13 Cal and No. 1 Stanford. FS tied No. 1 Stanford 0-0 in double overtime for its first non-loss of the season against ranked opponents. It also marked the first time this season, the Bulldogs hold a ranked foe to zero goals. Fresno Stae dropped heartbreakers to No. 16 Portland at home and No. 6 UCLA on the road earlier this season. Fresno State was competitive in both matches, losing by only one goal each time, 1-0 and 2-1, respectively. Last season the Bulldogs tied in their only match against a ranked foe with a 2-2 score versus No. 4 Connecticut in double overtime.
At Bulldog Stadium
The Bulldogs are 2-3-2 at Bulldog Stadium this season, including a 1-0 shutout victory against Ohio State, 2-1 victory against Cal State Fullerton and a 0-0 tie against No. 1 Stanford. The two losses were both 1-0 losses to UC Irvine and No. 15 Portland. The only tie at Bulldog Stadium came against Sacramento State in a 1-1 affair. Last season Fresno State posted a record of 3-5-2 at home. The three wins came in the Bulldogs' remarkable run at the MPSF Tournament when they made the championship match. Going into the tournament, FS was 0-4-2 at Bulldog Stadium. This season the Bulldogs have 10 matches slated for home play. including five against Pac-10 oppopents.
Proud as Can Be
Goalkeeper Jeremy Proud moved into third place on the all-time Fresno State saves list earlier this season. He has 52 saves this season and is looking to finish in the top two all-time in FS history. Proud surpassed Mark Dougherty, who recorded 251 career saves at Fresno State. With the shutout against Stanford, Proud surpassed assistant coach J.J. Wozniak, who finished his Bulldog career with 18 shutouts, for fifth place all-time.
