PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Junior point guard Marcus Moore scored 22 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds as Washington State beat Fresno State 69-66 on Monday night.
Moore went 4-for-16 from the field and 12-for-17 from the free-throw line. He also had eight assists for the Cougars (5-4).
Jonathan Woods led the Bulldogs (6-2) with 18 points, while Damon Jackson added 12 points. But on Fresno State's final two possessions, Jackson turned the ball over on a traveling violation then missed a 24-foot three-pointer at the buzzer.
Five points or less separated the teams virtually the entire game. In the second half, the Bulldogs never led but tied the score three times and didn't trail by more than three for nearly the last 10 minutes.
The Bulldogs, who played from behind the final 26 minutes, were haunted by 23 turnovers, which offset 49 percent shooting from the floor. In addition, Washington State was 20-for-28 from the free throw line while Fresno State was just 5-of-9.
Fresno State's quick, athletic big men dominated in the paint. The Bulldogs hit just five of 20 3-pointers, however. Washington State made seven of 21 from 3-point range.
The Cougars finished nonconference play with a winning record for the 16th consecutive season. During that span, Washington State has posted winning records in the Pac-10 only twice, with three other .500 marks.
Fresno State takes a couple of days off for the holiday then get back on the court Sunday against Sacramento State at 7 p.m. at Selland Arena.
