No. 9 Women's Tennis Cruises Past Sacramento State

FRESNO, Calif. - After suffering two losses last weekend at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, today's home match brought success to ninth-ranked Fresno State. The Bulldogs defeated Sacramento State 7-0 at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
In doubles, Kim Niggemeyer and Simone Jardim defeated Marta Gronowicz and Gabriella Lundquist 8-3. Chloe Carlotti and Lucia Tallo went uncontested against Roberta Fessenko and Italina Kirknis with a final score of 8-0 and Chantel Wiggins and Kelly Ramirez took down Petra Abraham and Amanda Sanches 8-2.
In singles, Niggemeyer, playing at No. 1 in the lineup, beat out Lundquist 6-1, 6-4. The explosive Chloe Carlotti blew past Gronowicz 6-0, 6-4 and Jardim defeated Fessenko 6-0, 6-3. At No. 4 in the lineup, Tallo finished successfully against Abraham 6-2, 6-1. Wiggins defeated Sanches 6-3, 6-3. Playing at No. 6 Ewa Grusiecka took down Christina Rivieccio 6-3, 6-3.
Head coach Kevin Epley noted that the gloomy weather didn't detract from the Bulldogs' performance today. "It's our first home match and I'm thrilled to have won here. I was concerned that after coming off several losses at the ITA Indoor Championships, we might not be up for competition, but we played great."
Epley went on to praise freshman Chloe Carlotti. "Chloe is really on fire. She has won her last eight matches."
The Bulldogs will play their next match on the road against No. 15 UCLA this Friday. They will face San Diego at their next home match on Sunday, February 24.
