No. 9 Women's Tennis Loses to North Carolina

FRESNO, Calif. - The first round of the ITA National Indoor Championships finished today with a 4-2 loss for the Bulldogs. Though the duo of Courtney Jantz and Lucia Tallo lost their doubles match against Kendall Cline and Lee Bairos 8-5, Fresno State managed to take the doubles point with wins by Simone Jardim and Kim Niggemeyer who beat out Marlene Mejia and Aniela Mojzis 8-1 and Chloe Carlotti and Lucia Tallo taking down Pinchbeck and Rotundi 8-5.
In singles, Chantel Wiggins won the sole point, defeating Kristin Koenig 6-2, 6-4. Kim Niggemeyer lost to Marlene Mejia 1-6, 7-6 (2) 6-2. Simone Jardim was taken down by Kate Pinchbeck 6-2, 6-1. Though the Bulldogs have been eliminated from the main draw after their loss, they will be redrawn for team competition on Friday and Saturday. The consolation tournament will begin at 9 a.m.
It was the first appearance for both teams. North Carolina has gone 3-0 this season and is currently ranked No. 16.
