No. 18 Women's Tennis Upset by No. 19 USC

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 18 Fresno State women's tennis team lost 6-1 to No. 19 USC on Wednesday. The Bulldogs fall to a 7-5 record, while the Trojans improve to 11-4. Though the No. 4 ranked duo of Kim Niggemeyer and Simone Jardim won their doubles match, Fresno State lost the doubles point after losing at the 2 and 3 spots.
In singles, No. 31 Niggemeyer fell to Jewel Peterson 6-4, 6-3. At the No. 2 spot, Chloe Carlotti was also defeated, winning the first set but losing the last two with a final score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. Simone Jardim came out on top against Maureen Diaz with a 6-2, 6-3 finish. Lucia Tallo appeared to be on her way to a victory as she won her first set against Anita Loyola 6-1. The next to sets proved to be more challenging for the freshman, as she lost 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. Chantel Wiggins fell 7-5, 6-4 against Tiffany Brymer. Courtney Jantz, playing at the No. 6 position, was defeated by Melissa Esmero6-3, 6-1.
The women will resume competition on Sunday at home against Harvard at noon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
