FRESNO, Calif. - No. 10 Fresno State and Tennessee Tech battled for nine scoreless innings before the Bulldogs pulled out a come-from-behind victory with a 2-1, 10-inning win over the Golden Eagles in the Hedrick's Hallowell Chevrolet Classic at Bulldog Diamond.
Freshman right-hander Jamie Southern went the distance as she scattered three hits, walked one and struck out 11 to improve to 12-3 on the season.
Sophomore designated player Lori Hoffman and junior catcher Pam West each went 2-4 for the Bulldogs, who scored two runs on eight hits.
Tennessee Tech, who fell to 8-6 on the season, took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 10th on a RBI single by Golden Eagle third baseman Samantha LoveLady.
In the 10th for the Bulldogs, sophomore second baseman Pam Perez knocked in the tying run with a RBI single to right field as senior third baseman Lindsay Fossatti scored. With no outs and the bases loaded, freshman left fielder Julie Selbicky lined a single to right field as sophomore pinch runner Mitzi Ing came home for the winning run.
Fresno State, which improved to 3-1 in tournament play, will play its final contest in the Hedrick's Hallowell Chevrolet Classic tomorrow afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. game against San Diego State.
San Diego State, which defeated Baylor 2-1 and handed the Lady Bears their first loss in tourney action earlier this evening, is undefeated in tournament play with a 4-0 mark.
