No. 14 Softball Reigns In UC Santa Barbara

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 14 Fresno State softball returned home after a 10-game road trip and responded with a 5-1 victory over UC Santa Barbara in non-conference action at Bulldog Diamond.
The Bulldogs scored five runs on eight hits and committed an error while the Gauchos scored a run on eight hits with an error.
Junior right-hander Leslie Poole notched her 14th win after walking none and striking out one.
The 'Dogs offense was powered by senior third baseman Lindsay Fossatti, who went 2-3 with a double and three RBI. Freshman designated player Jamie Southern had the other RBI for Fresno State after also going 2-3 with a double.
Fresno State put two runs on the board in the third and tacked on three more in the fifth as the Bulldogs improved to 45-15 overall.
In the third with one out, senior right fielder Vanessa Czarnecki singled to center field. Senior center fielder Tiffany Whipple then reached safely on an error by the Gaucho shortstop as Czarnecki advanced to second. Sophomore second baseman Pam Perez sacrificed both Bulldogs a base before a wild pitch, thrown by Gaucho pitcher Loren Thornburg, allowed Czarnecki to score. With Whipple on third, Fossatti lined a RBI single up the middle to knock in Whipple.
In the fifth, Czarnecki drew a walk to lead off the inning. Whipple then singled to left field before Perez sacrificed the runners to second and third. Fossatti then doubled down the left field line as both Czarnecki and Whipple raced home. Junior Sha Oliver came in to pinch run for Fossatti. Southern then answered with a RBI double to left field to score Oliver.
