Fritz Named All-America by Baseball America

FRESNO, Calif. - Junior Ben Fritz (San Jose, Calif.) continued to pile up his postseason awards, earning his second All-America honors. The catcher/right-hand pitcher was a second-team selection as a utility player by Baseball America.
Fritz was also a second-team All-America selection on Collegiate Baseball's publication as a utility player. This season he was 9-5 with a 3.24 ERA, including seven complete games. At the plate, he batted .283 with 10 home runs and 54 RBI.
Fritz was named 2002 WAC Pitcher of Year to go along with two first-team All-WAC selections as a starting pitcher and utility player. In the Major League June phase draft, he was a first-round draft pick (30th overall) by the Oakland Athletics.
He is the 32nd All-America selection and ninth first-round draft pick under fomer head coach Bob Bennett.
