MALIBU, Calif. - The good news is Fresno State (1-5) plays its next three matches at Bulldog Stadium. The bad news is the Bulldogs finished a six-match road trip against No. 17 Pepperdine (5-0-1) Sunday afternoon. FS allowed a season-high in goals as the Waves cruised to a 7-1 victory.
Six different Pepperdine players scored while eight recorded assists on the day. The Waves were led by forward Lacey Ubaldi, who scored twice and assisted on two others.
The match was competitive for 70 minutes of action as the Waves clinged to a 2-1 lead. Fresno State, actually, led in the match 1-0 as freshman forward Katri Nokso-Koivisto (Kokkola, Finland) scored her third goal of the season at the 12:05 mark. Freshman midfielder Kortney Lewis (Visalia, Calif.) recorded her first assist on the Nokso-Koivisto goal to her team-leading ninth point this season.
Lewis and Nokso-Koivisto have combined for seven goals and 16 points this season.
After the 70-minute mark, Pepperdine exploded for five goals from four different players. The Waves would finish with 23 shots on the day with 13 being on goal. The Bulldogs were able to fire 13 shots of their own, but had only one goal to show for it.
The non-conference schedule gets no easier for the Bulldogs as they host No. 5 UCLA Friday, 7 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
