FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State went 3-0 in its own quadrangular after wrapping up play with a three-game sweep over Sacramento State (30-26, 30-26, 30-23) in the North Gym.
The Bulldogs, who pushed their home record to 5-1, improved to 12-1 on the season behind an all-around team effort this evening.
Five 'Dogs had ten-plus kills and three recorded a double-figure kill performance with two collecting double-doubles.
Senior middle blocker Java Johnson and senior outside hitter Christy Burnett shared match-high honors in kills (12). Hitting .423 (12-1-26), Johnson also had a service ace, six digs and three blocks in the victory. Burnett, who had double-doubles in all three matches played over the weekend, picked up her 34th career double-double after collecting 11 digs and four service aces.
Sophomore outside hitter Kristen Fenton was perfect from the floor after hitting .417 (10-0-24) while adding 12 digs and three blocks. Fenton, who also recorded double-doubles in all three matches, shared match-high honors in digs with teammate and senior libero Heather Farr. Sophomore defensive specialist Tina Brennan dug 11 balls while sophomore setter Whitney Arena had 10.
Sandra Bandimere, who had 12 kills for the Hornets, led Sacramento State. Olivia Thomas and Jayme Wright each had 12 digs while Ali Mathewson chipped in 11.
With the wins at home, Fresno State ties its season-high for consecutive wins with sixth for the second time on the year. The Bulldogs, who have won 12 of their first 13 matches, are out to a 12-1 start for the first time since 1998. Only one other time have the 'Dogs raced out to a commanding start and that was in 1976.
"We played solid and kept everything together," head coach Lindy Vivas said. "I thought our serving was tough and we were able to mess them up a bit. Our outside hitters performed very well, especially the first and second games.
"We need to take this momentum into Nevada next week. That will be a key match for us. We feel very confident going into conference play and we've played tough with the best teams we've played. We've played nice and solid over the teams we're supposed to beat. I think everything is working really well right now."
