Cross Country Heads to Stanford Invitational

STANFORD INVITATIONAL The Bulldogs will head to Palo Alto, Calif. on Saturday to run in the Stanford Invitational. This year's invitational features 46 teams, 23 of which will have both its men's and women's teams competing. Nevada, which won the men's 8K and Chico, which won the women's 5K at the Fresno State Invitational, will both be there. Last year the Bulldogs men's team placed ninth out of 28 teams. Fresno State's top runner was Roosevelt Cook (Oakhills, Calif.) with an overall 14th place finish and a time of 26:17. Roberto Vaca (Sanger, Calif.) was second on the team, 57th overall, with a time of 26:44. The men's team will compete in an 8K and 4K run. The women will compete in the 6K and the 4K.
FRESNO STATE INVITATIONAL The men's team placed third out of seven teams in their 8K race. Fernando Cabada (Clovis, Calif.) was Fresno State's top finisher and seventh overall with a time of 26:13. On his heels was teammate Phil Ogilvie (Clarksburg, Calif.) with his fastest time to date of 26:22 and a ninth place finish. Roosevelt Cook took third place on the team and 23rd overall with a time of 26:59. Chico took first place as a team in the invitational. Their top runner was Chris Eggers and his first place time of 25:44.
The women's team's first place finisher and third overall was Kara June (Santa Maria, Calif.) for the second meet in a row. She finished the 5K race in 18:19, her best time to date. Her teammate Olga Gutierrez-Nunez (Visalia, Calif.) placed second on the team, 33rd overall, with a time of 19:34. Fellow teammate and sister Michelle June (Santa Maria, Calif.) also recorded her best time in the 5k, finishing third on the team and 34th overall with a time of 19:36. The women's team finished seventh out of 14 teams. The first place team was Nevada, whose top runner was Emma Garrad with a time of 17:59.
FIRST PLACE FINISH IN STANISLAUS For the second year in a row the the women's cross crountry team took first place at the Cal State Stanislaus Invitational. Junior Kara June finished in first place of the 6K with a time of 22:01.2, shaving almost 47 seconds of her time last year. Senior Olga Gutierrez-Nunez came in right behind June with a second place finish and a time of 22:31.1. Michelle June finished third on the team, fifth overall, coming in at 23:09.9. Finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, for the Bulldogs were junior transfer Orelia Gonzales (La Puente, Calif.) at 23:33.6 and Stacy Aurit (Union City, Calif.) at 23:28.9. Nicolin Neal (Fresno, Calif.) and Courtney Stewart (Castro Valley, Calif.) rounded out Fresno State's top seven.
UC IRVINE The men's cross country finished third out of 11 schools at the UC Irvine Invitational on Sept. 7. Junior transfer Fernando Cabada took first in the 8K run with a time of 25:15.2. Senior Roosevelt Cook finished second for the Bulldogs and fourth overall coming in at 25:45.6.
