Cross Country Faces Stiff Competition

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's and men's cross country teams traveled Sat. September 29, to Palo Alto, Calif. to run in the Stanford Invitational.
The men's team placed 15th out of 30 teams in 8K. Fernando Cabada (Clovis, Calif.) was Fresno State's top finisher, for the third straight meet, and 14th overall with a time of 24:16, his fastest time this year. Coming in second for the Bulldogs and 98th overall was Kyle Cirrincione (Fresno, Calif.) with a time of 25:46, also his fastest time of the year. Roosevelt Cook (Oakhills Calif.) took third place on the team and 118th overall with a time of 26:09. The 8K featured 230 runners.
The men's team also participated in a 4K. Alex and Ian Mason (Alameda, Calif.) were the top Bulldogs respectfully with times of 13:01 and 13:22.
The Univeristy of New Mexico men's team took first place in the 8K, with 61 points. The first place runner was Ian Dobson, with a time of 23:27, from Stanford but he ran unattached. Stanford was the team winner of the men's 4K with 21 points and the first place finisher, Ryan Hall, who ran a 11:49
The women's team placed 18th out of 33 teams in the 6K. Kara June (Santa Maria, Calif.) for the third meet in a row placed first for the Bulldogs and 31st overall with a time of 22:12. Her teammate Olga Gutierrez- Nunez (Visalia, Calif.) placed second on the team 58th overall with a time of 22:38. Stacy Aurit (Union City, Calif.) would be the team's third place finisher and 119th overall with a time of 23:3. The women's 4K featured over 230 runners.
In the women's 4K Courtney Stewart (Castro Valley, Calif.) and Andrea Osteen (Bakersfield, Calif.) topped the team. Stewart placed 74th overall with a time of 16:37 and Osteen came in 86th with a time of 17:07.
Stanford was the winner of the women's 6K with 50 points and the first place finisher Sara Bei, 20:02. Stanford also won the women's 4K but the top runner was Emily Mondor, 13:32, from Simon Fraser.
