DALLAS - After traveling overnight and into the afternoon following Monday night's loss at Hawai`i, a bleary-eyed Fresno State men's basketball team arrived in Dallas today to prepare for Thursday's WAC contest against SMU.
The Bulldogs had their five-game winning streak snapped by the Rainbow Warriors, dropping Fresno State's record to 11-3 (4-1 WAC). UH played a near-flawless second half, hitting 14-of-17 field goal attempts, including just a single miss in the final 16 minutes. WAC preseason player of the year Carl English showed he was deserving of that honor by pouring in a game-high 30 points, including 23 in the second half.
Damon Jackson led the Bulldogs with 21 while Terry Pettis and Noel Felix each had 14.
Fresno State departed Honolulu immediately after its game Monday and arrived at Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport at 1:30 p.m. The long flight and whirlwind last 48 hours caused some understandable disorientation among the travel party, with questions ranging from "What city are we in?" to "What day is this, anyway?"
Upon retrieving their luggage, the Bulldogs departed for the team hotel, located across the street from the SMU campus. After eating lunch, the Bulldogs enjoyed some time in a mall near the hotel before enjoying a dinner at 7 p.m. then a film session afterward.
Lights out is at 11 p.m., although with today's brutal travel schedule it is highly likely most players and support staff will counting sheep before then.
Fresno State returns to the court Wednesday for a practice at Moody Coliseum from 7-9 p.m. CST.
Thursday's game with the Mustangs is Game 2 of a seven-day, three-game, 8,465-mile road trip. It is the longest conference road trip any team in the nation makes this year.
Tipoff with SMU is 5 p.m. PST on Thursday. The game will be televised live by KFRE WB 59 (cable 5).
Trip Rundown
Where are the Bulldogs today? Dallas, Texas
What's on tap for tomorrow? A late wake-up call will allow to the Bulldogs to catch up on sleep after flying all night from Honolulu to Dallas. The team will break down film in the afternoon and practice at SMU from 7-9 p.m. CST.
What's newsworthy? Including layovers, Dallas is the fifth city Fresno State has been through since Sunday (Fresno, Los Angeles, Honolulu, San Jose and Dallas).
