FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Hiram Fuller scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Fresno State to a 59-48 victory over San Jose State on Saturday.
Fuller scored seven points during a 10-0 first half run that saw the Bulldogs put the game in hand. Fresno State went from down 10-9 to ahead 19-10 in the stretch and never trailed the rest of the way.
Damon Jackson also added 12 points for the Bulldogs (15-3, 8-1 Western Athletic Conference), who improved to 12-0 at home this year and now lead the league by two-and-a-half games over Nevada (10-8, 5-3), which Fresno State plays Saturday in Reno, Nev.
"This team keeps finding ways to win," head coach Ray Lopes said. "The game wasn't played at the pace we wanted, and we had too many turnovers, but the bottom line was we found a way. We are very happy to be 8-1 right now [in the WAC]."
Keith West led San Jose State (4-12, 1-5) with 12 points.
The Bulldogs led 31-24 at halftime, but SJSU cut it down to two with 13:34 to play.
Fresno State was able to put a little distance between itself and the Spartans thanks to its inside game. With the score 39-37, the Bulldogs received baskets from Fuller and fellow forwards Noel Felix and Jonathan Woods to go up eight. San Jose State was never closer than five the rest of the way.
"Hiram played hard and smart tonight," Lopes said. "He keeps getting better. And that's what we have to do as a team. We need to keep improving, especially with six of our last nine games on the road."
Fresno State held SJSU to just 36 percent shooting but was debilitated by a season-high 24 turnovers. The Bulldogs shot 46 from the floor and just 8-of-15 from the line.
