For the third straight year, Fresno State softball head coach Margie Wright has partnered up with the Central California Blood Center to help build a special lifesaving team.
The Third Annual Jenny Eller Blood Drive honors the memory of Jenny Eller, a softball standout who battled leukemia and never had the chance to play collegiate softball or live life to its fullest.
"On this team, everyone's a winner because everyone saves a life," said Wright, the NFCA Hall of Famer and NCAA's all-time winningest softball coach. "I challenge everyone to step up to the plate and give blood at this year's Jenny Eller Blood Drive."
Having kicked off on Monday, the Jenny Eller Blood Drive is being run at four different locations in the Central Valley. Donors who go into any of the four Central California Blood Centers and mention the words "Donor Team," "Coach Wright," "Jenny Eller," or "Fresno State Softball" at the time of donation will receive a commemorative 2003 Fresno State softball t-shirt, while supplies last.
Donor rewards also include a voucher for $2.00 off any Fresno State softball regular-season home game.
Blood donation takes less than one hour to complete. Donors must be in good health, weight at least 110 pounds and be a minimum of 17 years old. Senior citizens are encouraged to donate, as there is no upper age limit. Donors should eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours prior to their donation. Donors can give blood every eight weeks, the time it takes for the body to completely replace a pint of blood.
The Central California Blood Center is the sole provider of blood and blood products for the 30 hospitals in Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Tulare and Kings counties and must collect at least 250 pints of blood daily to meet the needs of the community.
