FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team earned a split tonight after getting nipped, 1-0, by No. 12 Stanford in the night cap.
The Bulldogs, who were held to two hits and committed an error, threatened to get on the scoreboard first with runners on the corners and two outs in the bottom of the first.
However, Stanford pitcher Tori Nyberg (12-4) got the Bulldogs' No. 5 batter to ground out on the first pitch to end the threat before settling down by retiring 18 of the next 19 Bulldog batters.
Senior right-hander Leslie Poole (4-3) scattered six hits and gave up a two out RBI single to left fielder Cassi Brangham in the fourth for the Cardinal's only run.
Freshman shortstop Christina Clark (1-3) and junior right fielder Lori Hoffman (1-3) were the only two Bulldogs to get a hit.
In the doubleheader against Stanford, Clark batted .500 (3-6) with a run. Hoffman hit .333 (2-6) with two RBI.
