FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team completed a doubleheader sweep over UC Riverside when the Bulldogs notched a 6-2 victory in the night cap.
Outside of freshman shortstop Christina Clark's power, senior right-hander Leslie Poole had pitched a perfect game through 6 2/3 innings before allowing a single to left field. She walked none and tied her season-high in strikeouts with five.
Fresno State scored two runs in the first, second and sixth innings as they pounded out 10 hits.
In the first with one out, freshman third baseman Angelina Diaz reached on an error by the Highlander second baseman. Junior right fielder Lori Hoffman then took a 1-1 count over the right center field fence for her first home run on the year.
Clark hit her second home run on the day when she connected for a two-run shot in the second.
In the sixth with two outs, sophomore second baseman Leticia Pacheco beat out an infield single to put runners on first and third. Clark then singled up the middle to score Oliver, who had come into the game as a pinch runner for senior catcher Pam West and stole a base. Diaz then singled up the middle to score Pacheco.
The top three Bulldogs in the batting order provided all the offense. In the night cap, Clark went 2-4 with a run, a home run and three RBI. Diaz went 2-4 with a run and a RBI while Hoffman went 3-4 with a run, home run and two RBI.
Fresno State is back in action at home on Friday, April 4, 6:00 p.m., and Saturday, April 5, 5:00 p.m., when the Bulldogs open Western Athletic Conference play against Hawai'i.
