FRESNO, Calif. - Chloe Carlotti improved to 8-0 in dual matches as 16th-ranked Fresno State defeated No. 49 BYU 5-2 at the Wathen Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs (5-3) were forced to come back from a 1-0 deficit after losing two of the three doubles matches. But Fresno State overcame BYU (4-5) behind straight-set victories in four of six singles matches. It was the fourth time the Bulldogs dropped the doubles point this year but first in which they rebounded to win the dual match.
"Obviously, you prefer to win the doubles point, but I was proud of the way we were able to bounce back and win this match," head coach Kevin Epley said. "I think we played very well in singles, and a lot of that is because losing the doubles put a little pressure on us."
Ranked No. 11 in the nation, Carlotti continued to roll through her dual match competition, this time defeating Dominique Reynolds 6-3, 6-0. The sophomore improved her record to 17-5 (8-0 dual).
Also cruising to victories in singles were Lucia Sainz, Lucia Tallo, Katherin Winterhalter. Kristy McRae won her match in three sets.
The Bulldogs continue their four-match homestand Thursday at 1 p.m. against No. 11 William and Mary.
