Rally Planned for Men's Basketball Team

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Athletics Department, in conjunction with the Timeout Club, will hold a welcome rally for the Fresno State men's basketball team on Sunday, March 9, at 3 p.m. at the Smittcamp Alumni House, located on campus at the corner of Shaw and Woodrow. The Smittcamp Alumni House is adjacent to the Save Mart Center construction site. The general public is invited to the rally.
The Bulldogs will be returning from their final road trip of the season, arriving via bus at approximately 3 p.m. Fresno State's final game is Saturday, March 8, at Rice.
The rally will honor the 2002-03 team that captured the Western Athletic Conference title. Due to self-imposed sanctions, the team will not be participating in the 2003 WAC Basketball Tournament or any postseason tournaments this year.
"We believe it's important to recognize the accomplishments of this team and coaching staff," said Athletics Director Scott Johnson. "Since there is no postseason opportunity, we encourage the community to come out and showed how proud we are of this team for not only winning the WAC title, but for thrilling us all season long. We have a classy group of young men who have played hard all season. They deserve to be properly recognized for what they've accomplished."
The Bulldogs (20-7, 13-4) claimed just the second WAC championship in school history last week with their 107-99 double overtime win over Nevada.
Fresno State players and coaches will be available for autographs.
