GOLF PREPARES FOR STANFORD
The Fresno State golf team is preparing to travel to Stanford to compete in the U.S. Intercollegiate this weekend. The 'Dogs competing are unknown at this time. Golf's next action will be at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship, hosted by Rice, Mon.-Tue., April 28-30.
BULLDOGS FINISHED 15th AT AUGUSTA
The Bulldogs traveled to Augusta, Ga. last weekend and competed in the 17-team Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational. The 'Dogs finished in 15th with a score of 870-50 strokes behind first place, Augusta State (820). Clemson came in next with 822. Individually, senior Nick Watney tied for 40th with 215 (74-70-71), junior Jeremy Moreno tied for 46th with 217 (74-73-70), junior Chad Spencer tied for 64th with 220 (72-73-75), sophomore Ryan Carter tied for 67th with 221 (75-73-73) and freshman Ryan McDonald tied for 75th with 224 (75-77-72). "The competition was very tough," head coach Mike Watney said. "Augusta State and Clemson played fantastic."
GOLF ADDS ANOTHER VICTORY
The Fresno State golf team added one more victory to its list after capturing the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, hosted by UC Santa Barbara. With 21 teams and 105 players, Fresno State dominated by finishing 23 strokes under par. Individually, senior Nick Watney broke a 27-year old course record with 199 (67-64-68) and gained his fifth individual win, 10th of his career, freshman Ryan McDonald tied for 18th with 214 (67-70-77), sophomore Ryan Carter tied for 24th with 216 (73-71-72), junior Chad Spencer (74-73-73) and junior Jeremy Moreno (70-77-73) tied for 52nd with 220. "I can't say enough about how everyone contributed. It's tough to stage this type of comeback. It was a good tournament for us to win," coach Watney said.
GOLF TRAVELED TO TEXAS
The Bulldogs traveled to Austin, Texas last month to compete in the 18-team Morris Williams Invitational. The Bulldogs finished 12th with a score of 878 (293-292-293). The 'Dogs that competed were Nick Watney who tied for seventh with 210 (70-69-71), Chad Spencer tied for 55th with 223 (76-73-74), Ryan Carter tied 34th with 219 (73-75-71) , Jeremy Moreno tied for 67th with 227 (74-75-78) and Ryan McDonald finished 84th with 232 (77-78-77).
FALL REVIEW
The fall season proved to be a successful season. With six tournaments under their belt, the Bulldogs captured five Top 10 finishes with two championship titles, the Fresno State-Lexus Classic and the Alister MacKenzie tournament. There are seven tournaments in the spring leading to the WAC championship in late April. The WAC championship will be hosted by Rice.
