No. 25 Women's Tennis Sweeps Past Santa Clara

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State won its fourth match in a row by breezing past Santa Clara 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Wathen Tennis Center.
The victory, the Bulldogs' fourth in a row, improved Fresno State to 15-1 at home since the beginning of the 2001-02 season. Santa Clara (8-9) lost for the fourth time in the last five matches.
It was an all-around dominating effort for the Bulldogs (11-7), who dropped just 25 games in the entire match. Fresno State got started on the right foot, sweeping the doubles while losing only one game in the process. Lucia Sainz and Kathrin Winterhalter at No. 2 and Kirsty McRae and Vlatka Jovanovic at No. 3 both defeated their opponents 8-0.
In singles, no Bulldog lost more than three games in a set. At No. 1, eighth-ranked Chloe Carlotti won her sixth in a row by handing Christine Limbers a 6-2, 6-2 loss. Carlotti is now 25-7 (16-2 dual) on the year and has won both her singles and doubles matches in six duals in a row.
"We really grabbed the momentum early in this match and fortunately we didn't let up," said head coach Kevin Epley. "We've only got a couple of weeks left until the WAC Tournament, and we want to be playing our best tennis of the year going into that. And right now, as a team I think we are starting to put things together well."
No. 108 Lucia Tallo also claimed victory, winning 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Tallo improved her win streak to four matches.
Next up for Fresno State is a match Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against Pacific at the Wathen Tennis Center. The Bulldogs have two regular season matches left, and both are at home.
