The Fresno State volleyball team will make their first public appearance of the season this weekend at Sierra Vista Mall and at the North Gym on the campus of Fresno State.
The annual "Meet the Team" gets underway at Sierra Vista Mall's Center Court (main mall entrance), on Sat., Aug. 23, 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Fans will be able to meet and greet the 2003 Fresno State volleyball team, pick up posters and schedule cards and have the opportunity to participate in a drawing for free volleyball tickets. Timeout and the Fresno State cheerleaders also will be on hand. In addition, information on how to join the SideOut Club, the volleyball booster club, will be available.
That evening, the Bulldogs will hold an inter squad scrimmage at the North Gym. The event is open to the public free of charge and begins at 6:15 p.m.
The Bulldogs open their 2003 season the following weekend, Aug. 29-30, with the Fresno State Invitational. The 'Dogs, who open at home for the first time since 1993 and for the ninth time overall, will battle New Mexico on Fri., Aug. 29, 7:30 p.m., before facing Idaho State (2:30 p.m.) and Cal Poly (7:30 p.m.) the following day.
In her 13th season as head coach of the Fresno State volleyball program, Lindy Vivas will look to become just the third Western Athletic Conference coach to amass 300 career wins. Vivas, who has guided the Bulldog volleyball program to six postseason appearances and seven 20-win seasons, enters the year with a 299-207 career mark.
NOTE:
Fresno State has announced its television package as well as a partial radio package for the 2003 Bulldog volleyball season. All six televised matches will be produced live by Comcast, local cable channel 14. In addition, four volleyball radio dates have been designated and can be heard live on EPSN 1430 AM. Selected home volleyball matches also will be heard live on the world wide web at www.gobulldogs.com.
