Cross Country Travels to San Francisco State Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. - BULLDOGS AT SAN FRANCISCO INVITATIONAL
The women's cross country team travels to San Francisco, Calif., for the San Francisco State Invitational on Saturday. Last season the Bulldogs won the meet with a low score of 28 points. There were nine teams competing in the women's 6K race. San Jose State and Santa Clara took second and third place, respectively. Fresno State had four runners finish in the top-10 individually. Senior Kara June (Santa Maria, Calif.) looks to repeat her first place overall finish. Last season she recorded a personal-best 6K of 21:46 at this meet. Since then, she has beaten it by five seconds at the Stanislaus Invitational on Sept. 6.
STANFORD INVITATIONAL RESULTS
The Bulldogs competed at one of their most difficult invitationals of the regular season. Fresno State came in 17th out of 26 teams in the women's 6K race. June was the team's top finisher coming in 50th with a time of 22:51, 39 seconds slower than het time last year on the course. Senior Orelia Gonzalez (La Puenta, Calif.) came in next for the 'Dogs, finishing 116th with a time of 24:18. Rounding out the top three was junior Stacy Aurit (Union City, Calif.) who came in 121st with a time of 24:26. The Stanford Invitational hosts some of the best cross country teams in the nation. Teams such as UCLA, Wisconsin, Arkansas and Nevada competed in the women's 6K event.
FRESNO STATE WINS STANISLAUS INVITATIONAL
The Fresno State women's cross country team won the Stanislaus Open at Modesto's Legion Park on Saturday. Seven Bulldog runners finished in the top-nine. The team totaled 22 points for first and Cal State Stanislaus finished second with 43 points. The Bulldogs were led by June who took first place overall in the 6K race with a time of 21:41. She finished 1:25 ahead of Cal State Stanislaus' Desiree Dvorak, who came in second. June also took five seconds off her 2002 season-best 6K time. Gonzalez was the second Fresno State runner to the finish line. She took third in the meet with a time of 23:19. Bulldog runners took fifth through ninth place. Andrea Buckner (Anaheim, Calif.) finished fifth with a time of 23:49. Aurit and Nicolin Neal (Fresno, Calif.) took sixth and seventh with times of 23:50.2 and 23:50.4, respectively. Eighth went to Courtney Stewart (Castro Valley, Calif.) and Corina Mendoza-Martinez (Sanger, Calif.) was ninth.
