Fresno, Calif. -
By virtue of her 16th place finish at the WAC Championship, sophomore Andrea Buckner qualified for the NCAA Western Regional, held at Woodward Park. Buckner's 16th place finish also placed her just two-spots out of second team All-WAC.
First team All-WAC is awarded to the first seven runners at the WAC Championships, and the runners who finish 8th through 14th are named to the second team. This is the second year in a row that Buckner will be going to the NCAA Regionals. Last year, Buckner placed 67th out of 205 runners in the event.
Fresno State is hosting the NCAA District 9 (Western) Regionals on Saturday, November 13. This is the 14th time that the Regionals have been hosted at Fresno State's Woodward Park, and the first since 2000.
This year's event boasts some of the nation's top runners and teams, including the defending NCAA Division I Champion men's and women's teams from Stanford. Other teams expected to attend include traditional cross country powers such as UCLA, Washington, Arizona State and UC Santa Barbara.
The event is held at Woodward Park, and will be free except for the three dollar entrance fee to get into the park. The women's 6k race will begin at 11 a.m., and the men's 10k race starts at noon. The top two teams will qualify as a team to go to the NCAA Championships, which are being held in Terra Haute, Ind. in 2005. Those teams will will be joined by the top four individual runners not from those schools in qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
