West Named WAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

DENVER - Fresno State guard Marcus West has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week for February 2-8.
West, a junior from Frederick, Md. (San Jacinto JC), averaged 24.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in playing 99 of a possible 100 minutes last week. West opened the week with 16 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double in an 80-75 double overtime loss at Louisiana Tech. He played all 50 minutes of the contest.
Two days later at SMU, West scored a career-high 32 points and tied a WAC and Fresno State record with nine three-pointers in another double OT contest won 75-74 by Fresno State. For the week, he was 18-of-31 (.581) from the field and 11-of-16 (.688) from three-point range. It is West's first ever WAC Player of the Week award and first for a Bulldog player this year.
The other nominations were senior forward Aaron Haynes, Boise State; freshman forward Paul Millsap, Louisiana Tech; freshman forward Nick Fazekas, Nevada; sophomore guard Bryan Hopkins, SMU; and senior forward Roy Smallwood, UTEP.
