FRESNO, Calif. - As it has all tournament long, form held on Friday at the 2004 McCaffrey WAC Tournament, which conclude Saturday at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif.
In the women's bracket, top-seeded and sixth-ranked Louisiana Tech (26-2) breezed past No. 4-seed UTEP 74-47 in the day's first semifinal game. In the other semi, second-seeded Rice set up a rubber match with the Techsters by defeating No. 3-seed Tulsa 55-42.
Earlier in the year, the Owls (21-8) handed Louisiana Tech its only WAC loss when they won 87-84 in overtime in Houston.
The women's title contest begins at noon and will be televised nationally by CSTV.
The top seeds also advanced to the championship game on the men's side. No. 1-seed Nevada took out fourth-seeded Rice 67-59, setting up a showdown in the finals with second-seeded UTEP at 6 p.m. The Miners (24-6) knocked off third-seeded Boise State 85-73.
The two teams split their two games earlier this year, with each winning on their home court.
ESPN2 is televising the men's championship game.
The winners of both games will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Both are trying to snap rather lengthy NCAA Tournament droughts. The Wolf Pack (22-8) have not advanced since 1985 while UTEP hasn't danced since 1992.
For both championship games, children 14 years and younger will be admitted free of charge provided they attend with a ticketed adult.
Tickets for the women's title game are $15 and $10. For the men's game, prices are $30, $25 and $18.
