FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State has its eye on the No. 6 seed and a first round bye in next week's conference tournament as it takes the floor Saturday at 7 p.m. against Hawaii in the regular season finale for both schools. The Bulldogs come in with a 13-14 (9-8 WAC) record and off their most impressive offensive performance of the season Thursday against San Jose State. UH is 19-9 (11-6) and in a three-way tie for third place, but has lost four of its past six. Saturday's game is being broadcast live by Sportswest on KFRE WB 59.
The Bulldogs officially lead the all-time series 12-9, a record that does not include six victories collected between 1999-01 that have since been vacated. The Rainbow Warriors have won five of the last seven against Fresno State, although the Bulldogs have won two in a row. Earlier this year, Fresno State picked up a rare win on the island when it defeated UH 69-58 in one of the team's most complete performances of the season. The Bulldogs are 6-2 all-time against Hawaii at home.
WAC TOURNAMENT SEEDING SCENARIOS
Fresno State currently rests in sixth place in the WAC standings, one game ahead of seventh-place Louisiana Tech. Teams that finish in the top six receive a first round bye in the league tournament and avoid playing on Tuesday, the opening day. Following are the scenarios for sixth and seventh place:
- Fresno State is the No. 6 seed if: The Bulldogs defeat Hawaii OR if Louisiana Tech loses at Tulsa on Saturday afternoon.
- Louisiana Tech is the No. 6 seed if: The Bulldogs lose to Hawaii AND if Louisiana Tech wins at Tulsa Saturday afternoon.
