FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State has gained the No. 6 seed of the 2004 McCaffrey WAC Tournament and will play either Boise State or Nevada in the first round on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
Earlier today, Tulsa defeated Louisiana Tech 80-70, giving the Bulldogs the sixth seed in the conference tournament. La Tech is the No. 7 seed and will play San Jose State in the opening round on Tuesday.
In other WAC games, Boise State defeated UTEP 59-45, preventing the Miners from winning the conference title outright and potentially dropping the Miners to the second seed.
Rice defeated SMU 71-66, locking the Owls into the No. 4 seed. Rice's victory also assured Hawaii of the No. 5 seed and a matchup with the Owls in the first round on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs will play either Nevada or Boise State in their first round game. Should Nevada defeat San Jose State tonight, Fresno State will play the Broncos. Should the Wolf Pack be upset by the Spartans, the Bulldogs will play Nevada.
A victory will also give Nevada, which is 14-0 at home this year going into its game with SJSU, a share of the conference title.
