STANFORD INVITATIONAL OFFERS BIG TEST
Next up for the cross country team is the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. on Sept. 25, which will be their first 6k run of the year. Featuring many of the same teams that ran in the Fresno Invitational, the meet also includes host Stanford, who won last year's NCAA National Championship in Waterloo, Iowa. The Bulldogs hope to continue the steady improvement they have shown in the past weeks from every runner on the team. The team ran in this event last year as well, finishing 17th out of 26 teams.
WHO'S NUMBER TWO?
The most interesting competition next week for the Bulldogs should be who will finish second at the longer distance of 6k. Senior Nicolin Neal (Fresno, Calif.) was the second finisher for the Bulldogs at the season opener, the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara. However, freshman Marina Santana (Woodland Hills, Calif.) was the big surprise at Fresno State's own Fresno Invitational, nipping Neal at the line with a time of 19:35. Santana, a standout at Buchanan High School, will hope to continue that streak in a 6k run, which is the distance that both the WAC Championships and the NCAA Championships will be run at.
RUNNING IN RIVERSIDE
The Bulldogs will travel again in two weeks to run in the Riverside Invitational. The 6k run will be the second race in a row that Fresno State will run at that distance. This is the first time in recent years the Bulldogs will run in Riverside.
