Cross Country Season Opens In Santa Clara

Fresno, Calif. - The Bulldogs started the competitve season on Sept. 4 with two meets, and sending part of the squad to each meet. This season's top runners attended the Bronco Invitational, which was held at Santa Clara University.
The top returning runner for the Bulldogs, Sophomore Andrea Buckner (Yorba Linda, Calif.) started off the season with a quality run, finishing 2nd in 19:42.02. That time was more than twenty seconds faster than her time last year on the same course. Senior Nicolin Neal (Fresno, Calif.) also placed in the top 10, finishing in 20:00.81, which placed her in 7th overall. That was also a twenty second improvement from last year's time at the Bronco Invitational.
The team finished third, with 58 points. Santa Clara won the meet on their home course with 27 points, and Loyola Marymount had 45 points, good enough for second.
The cross country team returns home to Fresno State for the Fresno Invitational. The Invitational was last held in 2002, and will feature 9 teams. It will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 11.
