FRESNO, Calif. - The Save Mart Center is projecting a milestone to occur during Fresno State's men's basketball homestand next week. The facility, which has been in operation since November 2003, is expecting its 1 millionth patron to walk through its doors.
The event is expected to take place in one of the Bulldogs' home games next week. Fresno State hosts Louisiana Tech on Thursday and then SMU on Saturday. Both contests begin at 7 p.m.
Fresno State will honor the 1 millionth fan by giving them two free tickets and a parking pass to all Save Mart Center events for the next year. Other prizes will also be included.
The Save Mart Center has been the home of Fresno State men's and women's basketball since last year. With a capacity of 16,116, the facility is one of the largest college basketball arenas in the western United States. It was the home to the 2004 WAC Basketball Tournament and will be one of the host sites for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament in March.
It marks the first time ever the NCAA Basketball Tournament will be played in Fresno.
The Save Mart Center ranked 24th in the world in attendance at concerts and programs during 2004, according to POLLSTAR Magazine. The facility's ticket sales fell only slightly behind two other major California venues - the Staples Center and Oakland Arena.
