FRESNO, Calif. - Freshman Laura Luethke has been selected to participate in the 2005 Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Wednesday. The competition takes place July 13-15 at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
"It's a huge honor for Laura to be chosen to represent the U.S. in these matches. I know she's excited and I'm sure she'll make Fresno State proud," head women's golf coach Angie Cates said.
Luethke is one of 12 golfers named to Team USA. The squad consists of eight men's and four women's collegiate players.
Luethke, Wake Forest's Ashley Hoagland, Stacy Lewis of Arkansas and Annie Thurman-Young of Oklahoma State comprise the women's portion of the team. The men's team consists of Travis Bertoni of Cal Poly, South Carolina-Aiken's Dan Burkhart, Will Dodson of SMU, Methodist College's Adam Horton, J.J. Killeen of TCU, Arizona's Henry Liaw, Shane Prante of St. Martin's and Duke's Nathan Smith.
"It will be a great experience to have these players on her team," Cates said. "These are some of the best collegiate players in the country and there will no doubt be some great golf played that week."
Every member on the squad earned all-conference honors. Team USA leads all-time in the USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship series 22-7 and has won nine straight competitions.
