Fresno State Competes in Three Races at Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Fresno State cross country team participated in the 32nd Annual Stanford Invitational this evening at the Stanford Golf Course.
The Bulldogs ran in all three of the women's races, which included the 5K non-scoring meet, the 4K scoring meet and the 6K scoring meet.
In the 5K, Fresno State had seven runners compete. Junior Dina McPhail finished first for the Bulldogs with a time of 23:14 to place 61st overall out of 92 runners. Sophomore Diana Fatyga was next to cross the finish line as she ran 23:24 to place 65th overall. Other Bulldogs who ran included senior Ali Qali (83rd, 25:29), senior Elizabeth Evans (86th, 26:27), freshman Kim Hendricks (87th, 26:39), freshman Ashley Marcinkowski (91st, 27:19) and sophomore Tiffany Hooks (92nd, 27:36).
In the 4K race, the Bulldogs finished 17th out of 17 schools with 481 points. No. 4 Stanford won the meet with 31 points followed by runner-up Simon Fraser (79 points). Rounding out the top five include British Columbia (99 points), Valparaiso (147 points) and UC Davis (154 points).
For Fresno State, senior Sunny Arada was the top Bulldog finisher as she clocked 16:52 to place 92nd overall out of a 128-runner field. Sophomore Nancy Rodriguez followed and posted a time of 18:28 to finish 118th. Other Bulldogs who ran included freshman Cheri Ramirez (120th, 19:26), sophomore Jordan Anderson (124th, 20:29), junior Cherella Nicholson (125th, 20:38), junior Emily Pegan (126th, 20:53), sophomore Jessica Law (127th, 22:21) and junior Brittney Gilbert (128th, 22:24).
In the 6K, Fresno State had six runners compete as junior Andrea Buckner was the top 'Dog by running 23:01 to finish 46th out of a 227-runner field. Freshman Roxanne Sellick clocked 24:09 and placed 107th overall. Junior Zinzi Evans ran 24:28 to finish 124th. Junior Valeria Delgado (171st, 25:25), sophomore Patty Torres (173rd, 25:37) and freshman Paloma Dominguez (182nd, 25:57) rounded out the field.
As a team, Fresno State finished 22nd out of the 32-team field. No. 4 Stanford won this meet as well by posting 31 points. Chico State was second with 136 points while Portland was third with 155 points. San Diego State placed fourth with 189 points and No. 15 UC Santa Barbara rounds out the top five with 193 points.
Fresno State will compete next Sat., Oct. 1 at the UC Riverside Invitational. The 5K meet gets underway at 7:00 a.m.
