Bulldogs Lose to Aggies

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State Volleyball team battled and lost to No. 22 New Mexico State in tonight's match 22-30, 20-30 and 16-30. The Bulldogs hit .138 from the floor while the Aggies hit a .405. Fresno State moves to 1-7 in the WAC while the Aggies improve to 6-1.
Freshman outside hitter Lacey Gera paced the Bulldogs' attack on the night with a high of 12 kills on .226 hitting. Freshman outside hitter Kori Hayes led the Bulldogs hitting .455 from the floor on five kills through 11 attempts. Junior setter Tiffany Hess served up 18 assists while redshirt-freshman setter Lisa Gera added 12. Senior defensive specialist Cassie Gilford and senior outside hitter Alison Pitton recorded 12 digs.
In game one Fresno State and New Mexico State battled but a 12-7 lead put the Aggies on top. The Bulldogs came within one at 15-14 on a kill by freshman middle hitter Jamie Temperino. NMS went on a six point run before Fresno State could mark its next point. Aggies ended game one on a kill from junior middle blocker Kim Oguh. Oguh tallied 11 kills on the night.
The Bulldogs quickly fell behind in the second game 16-8 on a kill from Oguh. Fresno State would cut the lead to six on a kill by Lacey Gera but New Mexico State would build a lead by 11 with the score at 28-17. The Aggies took game two 30-20. The Bulldogs hit .111 better in the first game then in the second.
The `Dogs would hold steady for the first few points in game three at 8-7. NMS would pull away and build a lead on three consecutive Bulldog hitting errors at 19-8. The Aggies held the 11 point lead at 25-14 on a kill by senior outside hitter Alice Borden. Borden led New Mexico State with 12 kills on 25 attempts for a hitting percentage of .360. Aggies would win game three 30-16.
