Bulldogs Fight Bronco Ride

Boise, Idaho - The Fresno State volleyball team lost a conference match on Saturday afternoon against Boise State (31-29, 31-29, 30-20). The Bulldogs are now 0-4 in the conference. Fresno State hit well in game one compiling 23 kills and hit its highest percentage of the year of .353. Game two was a close battle but the Bulldogs could not pull it out. The Broncos were out to a good lead in game three but the Bulldogs could not fight back.
Statistical leaders for Fresno State were freshman outside hitter Lacery Gera who recorded 15 kills. Junior outside hitter Angela Wiggins was next highest with 12 and junior outside hitter Alisha McKee recorded 10.
In game one the Broncos ran out to a 7-4 lead but junior outside hitter Alisha McKee recorded two kills for the Bulldogs out of their first four points. Freshman middle blocker Kelly Leonardo recorded a huge solo block that gave the Bulldogs momentum cutting the lead to one at 9-8. The Bulldogs then took the lead at 11-10 on a serve by senior libero Cheryl Selenak. Game one was tight and would be close through the end. Boise State took an 18-15 lead on a kill by senior middle blocker Cameron Flunder. Fresno State tied the game up at 20 a piece on a trick tip shot by freshman outside hitter Lacey Gera. The Bulldogs would achieve a three point lead on two consecutive kills by Lacey Gera at 24-21. Broncos took the lead back and led by two at 29-27 but the Bulldogs recorded two consecutive points to tie it up on a McKee kill and a Selenak serving ace. Boise State won game one 31-29. Fresno State connected on 23 kills for a hitting percentage of .353 the highest all year.
Game two was knotted up at five a piece by junior outside hitter Angela Wiggins service ace. The Bulldogs took an 11-9 lead on a kill by Temperino and would build on that taking a four point spread at 14-10. Fresno State would hold the lead at 18-15 on a Leonardo kill. The Broncos came surging back at 20-18 and took the lead on a kill by sophomore outside hitter Jeanette Jenkins. The game was tied up at 21 a piece on a hitting error by Boise State. The Broncos took a lead at 26-25 on a kill by Flunder. The Bulldogs took a lead on a solo block by McKee at 28-27. Broncos took a lead at 30-29 on a Jenkins kill. Boise State would win game two 31-29 on a Bulldog hitting error.
The Broncos would grab a 7-2 lead before the Bulldogs would score its third point of the game by Pitton. The Broncos would jump out to a 12-3 lead on a tip shot by sophomore setter Mandy Klein. The Bulldogs would build a short run on a Lacey Gera kill at 26-13 before the Broncos would end the match. Broncos won game three 30-20.
The Bulldogs will head home to compete in five consecutive home matches starting next week with Utah State on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Nevada on Saturday at 7 p.m.
