Bulldogs Win Last Conference Match of Year Against Louisiana Tech

Ruston, La. - The Fresno State volleyball team (5-23, 3-23 WAC) defeated the Louisiana Tech Techsters (6-27,0-16 in a five game match 30-28, 38-40, 31-29, 22-30 and 15-8.
Fresno State was led by junior outside hitter Angela Wiggins who had 25 kills and junior outside hitter Alisha McKee who tallied 13. Freshman outside hitter Lacey Gera added nine. Both teams hit .188 on the match.
Game one would be a battle between the two teams but Fresno State would grab an early lead at 9-7. The Lady Techsters would tie the game up at 13 a piece and try to stay with the Bulldogs at 16-16 but Fresno State would go on a 4-0 run to make it 20-16 before Louisiana Tech would call a timeout. Late in the match the Lady Techsters would come within two at 24-22 but with the Bulldogs playing fundamentally sound they would find another 4-0 run and lead 27-22 before a second Louisiana Tech timeout. After a Bulldog 4-0 run the Lady Techsters would answer back with a 4-0 run to make the game 28-27. Fresno State would win game one 30-28 on a kill and a service ace by the Bulldogs. In game one the Bulldogs would hit .167 to the Lady Techsters .182.
In game two Louisisana Tech created an early advantage coming out to a 4-1 lead but the Bulldogs would tie it up at 4 a piece on a kill by junior outside hitter Angela Wiggins. Late in game two the Lady Techsters's biggest lead would be four at 23-19 but the Bulldogs rattled a 3-0 run to make it 23-22 after a Tech timeout. Fresno State would take its first lead of the game at 26-25. In a tight game two the Bulldogs would see leads at 35-34 and 36-35 but could not pull it out as the Lady Techsters would win 40-38.
Game three would be tied up at eight a piece but Fresno State was the first team that found its rhythm and pounded out a 8-2 run to make it 16-10. The Bulldogs gathered their biggest lead at 22-16 but Louisiana Tech found a way to get back in the game to come within one at 29-28 after a Fresno State timeout. The Bulldogs would go on to win 31-29 on a kill and a side out.
The Lady Techsters built an early 10-6 lead in game four and would see their biggest lead by nine at 20-11. The Bulldogs would cut the lead to two at 22-20 after a Tech timeout. Louisiana Tech would manage to put together a 7-2 run at 29-22 and put game four away at 30-22 on a Bulldog hitting error.
In game five Fresno State would take a three point lead at 7-4 before a timeout would be called by Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs looked to run with the match leading by five at 10-5 and would in the end winning game five 15-8.
Fresno State will now head to the WAC Tournament in Reno, Nev., as the eighth seed in the conference. The Bulldogs will again face the ninth seed Louisisana Tech at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22.
