Bulldogs Win First Match in WAC Tournament

Reno, Nev. - The Fresno State volleyball team defeated the ninth seed Louisiana Tech Techsters in a four game match by scores of 27-30, 30-26, 31-29 and 30-23. This was the third time the Bulldogs have faced the Techsters this year.
Fresno State was led by junior outside hitter Angela Wiggins who had 16 kills and junior outside hitter Alisha McKee who tallied 16. Senior Cassie Gilford finished the match with a career high 36 digs.
The Bulldogs held a slight advantage in game one jumping out to 9-8 lead and would look to separate early as they would go on a 4-1 run and go ahead 12-8. Louisiana Tech would be forced to use its first timeout. Late in game one Fresno State would lead by as many as eight at 22-15 but it would slowly dwindle as the Techsters would inch their way back by two at 25-23. Louisiana Tech would take its first lead of the game at 26-25 and go on take a two point lead at 29-27. Fresno State would lose game one 30-27.
In game two neither team would take a definite lead at 15 a piece but Fresno State looked to pull away at 20-17. The Bulldogs would hold their biggest lead at 24-20 and lead by four as late as 29-25. Fresno State would go on to win game two 30-26. The Bulldogs would also win in the statistics category through game two connecting on 36 kills on 100 team attacks for a .220 hitting percentage to the Techsters 27 kills on 95 team attacks for a hitting percentage of .105.
Game three was a close battle in the beginning with the score tied up at 16 a piece. Louisiana Tech would take the biggest lead of game three at 20-17 and would sustain a three point lead as late as 25-22. The Bulldogs would make a comeback and tie the game up at 26 and 29 a piece. The Bulldogs would go on to win 31-29.
Fresno State came out firing in game four and would take an early 7-3 lead. The Bulldogs looked to be in control of game four and would lead by six at 20-14 and lead by as many as 10 at 25-15. The Bulldogs would go on to win game four 30-23.
The Bulldogs will play tonight against the No. 1 seed Hawai'i at 7:30.
