FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State men's golf shot a final round of 298/+8 at the windy Brookside Country Club in Stockton, Calif. After three rounds the Bulldogs carded 871/+7 to place eighth out of 12 teams.
BYU increased its lead shooting 12-under today for a total score of 830. Charlotte was in second with 841 and Santa Barbara took third with 852. Irvine shot three rounds of 855 to take fourth and Rhode Island took fifth with 867.
Matt Ryan was the top `Dog today with a third round score of 66 to mark the best round of anyone on the field. Ryan moved up on the leaderboard from 23rd to stand tied for seventh. This marks Ryan's second top ten finish on the season. Ryan had six birdies and an eagle on the day to help his final score of 210.
"Only five guys shot in the 60's, so this round of 66 for Matt is just fantastic," said head coach Mike Watney. "All the kudos go to him, I would say this is the best round he has had all year."
Gunnar Avinelis tied for 35th with a score of 221 and Brad Wyatt finished a stroke behind to tie for 38th. Todd Angel and Matt Shaw tied for 43rd place with a score of 224.
"We still have a lot of work to do before the spring," said Watney. "But we got a lot of time."
This tournament marks the end of Fresno State men's golf fall season. They will resume competition in February at the John Burns Invitational in Wahiawa, Hawaii.
