Denver, Colo. - Fresno State junior forward Hector Hernandez was named the Western Athletic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for November 27 - December 3, announced Monday by the conference office. The WAC honor is the first of the junior's career.
Hernandez had one of his best performances in a Fresno State uniform Saturday against Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore. Hernandez recorded 23 points and 12 rebounds on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Hernandez and Fresno State earned a 74-69 victory and improved to 7-0 on the season.
"Hector had an outstanding game for us and his performance was able to keep us in the game during the second half," head coach Steve Cleveland said. "We needed a big rebounding night from somebody and Hector stepped up."
Hernandez set a career-high with 12 rebounds, five coming on the offensive end. The 6-9 junior is the second Fresno State player to earn WAC Player of the Week honors this season. Junior Dominic McGuire earned the WAC honor in the first week of the season.
Fresno State returns to action on Wednesday, December 6 when it travels to Santa Barbara to face the Gauchos at 7 p.m. from the Thunderdome. The game can be seen live on Pay-per-view via the internet at www.CSTV.com.
