FRESNO, Calif. - Led by seniors Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter, the Fresno State women's tennis team beat San Diego 5-2, Sunday at the Wathen Tennis Center. Sainz and Winterhalter both won in singles and combined for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles as well. Fresno State improved to 10-6 on the season, while San Diego fell to 9-5.
"It was nice to have a good crowd out today for the win," said head coach Simon Thibodeau. "We played well in doubles and beat a good top-50 team."
Sainz and Winterhalter improved to 28-7 overall and 12-4 in dual matches as the team's top doubles tandem. They each earned solid victories at singles, both having won five consecutive. Freshman Magdalena Tokarska was leading San Diego's Brittany Reitz 3-0 in the first set before Reitz retired due to injury. Sophomore Jacqueline Haskett topped Helene Lindstrand 6-3, 4-6, (10-7) as well.
Fresno State is back in action on Thursday, April 6, for a doubleheader with Cal Poly and Nevada at the Wathen Tennis Center beginning at 12:30 p.m.
