
No. 21 Fresno State Breezes Past Nevada, 6-1

FRESNO, Calif. - The 21st-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team blew past Nevada 6-1 in the second match of a doubleheader, Thursday evening at the Wathen Tennis Center. Senior Lucia Sainz clinched Fresno State's victory when she beat Myriam Bouchlaka in straight sets at the No. 3 spot in the singles lineup. The Bulldogs have won four straight and six of their last seven matches. Fresno State improved to 12-6 on the season, while Nevada fell to 11-8.
The Bulldogs were completely dominant in doubles. No. 51 Melanie Gloria and Jacqueline Haskett shut out Bouchlaka and Bach-Lan Pham 8-0 at the No. 3 spot. Freshmen Tinesta Rowe and Magdalena Tokarska followed with an 8-2 victory, while sixth ranked Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter finished off the Wolf Pack with an 8-1 win at the No. 1 spot.
Winterhalter won her seventh straight singles match, improving to 13-5 in dual matches and 20-8 overall. Winterhalter is just two singles wins shy of 100 for her career, tying Shanna Peete for third-best on Fresno State's all-time career singles wins list with 98.
Freshman Bruna Paes won at the No. 5 spot for the first time this season, defeating Audrey Bardot 6-2, 6-2. Tokarska and Gloria won in straight sets to help the Bulldogs improve to 8-1 at home.
The Bulldogs are back in action on April 8 when they head to Sacramento, Calif., for a dual match with Sacramento State at noon. The squad then returns home on Sunday, April 9, at 11 a.m. when it hosts Loyola Marymount at the Wathen Tennis Center.
