Fresno, Calif. - Facing LMU in their second match of three at the USC/LMU tournament, Fresno State lost in three games to the Lions at Gersten Pavilion in Los Angeles. Loyola Marymount hit .358 in the match as the Bulldogs fell in their second match at the tournament. The team closes out their draw with a match against Utah tomorrow.
Loyola Marymount won the first game convincingly, doubling up Fresno State in a 30-15 win in the opener. Fresno State made their own problems, making seven attack errors and only eight kills, while the Lions only made 12 kills but won game one easily.
Fresno State limited their mistakes in the second and third games, improving their hitting from .027 in the first game to .188 and .222 in the next two respectively, but Loyola Marmount continued their hot hitting to close out the win, taking two more competitive games 30-20 and 30-26. Former Fresno State outside hitter Christianna Reneau had seven kills, and Heather Hughes led the Lions with 13 kills.
Junior Alisha McKee led the Bulldogs with 10 kills, and Tiffany Hess added 15 assists, as the Bulldogs greatly improved their hitting from the first match of the tournament, as the team hit .207 in the last two games against Loyola Marymount, improving from a season-worst hitting percentage in last game.
Fresno State finishes their stay in Los Angeles tomorrow, as the Bulldogs play Utah to close out the USC/LMU Invitational. The Bulldogs return home in two weeks as the team moves into their new home at the Save Mart Center with this season's premier match, hosting 2005 National Champions Washington to the 15,596-seat arena. That match is scheduled for Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
