Rasmussen Leads `Dogs with 15 Kills

FRESNO, Calif. - Despite hitting a season-high .211 for a four-game match, the Fresno State volleyball team fell in four to Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday night (Oct. 16) at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. The game scores were 26-30, 23-30, 30-26 and 25-30.
The Bulldogs also set two other season records in a four-game match with six service aces and three solo blocks.
Individually, the Bulldogs saw four players with double-digit kills led by freshman Tairyn Rasmussen with a career-high 15 kills and 11 digs for her second collegiate double-double.
Kelly Leonardo led the team in hitting percentage at .333 as she contributed 13 kills of her own, to tie her career high.
Alisha McKee and Lacey Gera also had ten kills a piece.
Game one saw the Roadrunners come out to an early lead and the Bulldogs got as close as three at 24-27 and 26-29, but Sarah Norman ended it with a kill for CSUB.
The Bulldogs took their own early lead in game two, before an attack error by the Bulldogs tied it at 14 and CSUB scored five-straight points to take the lead for good. Another kill by Sarah Norman ended the game.
Fresno State come out of the locker room and put together its longest run of the season as freshman Megan Moss served for nine-straight points and Rasmussen had five of her kills in that stretch.
Cal State Bakersfield made a comeback to get within three at 27-24, but the Bulldogs hung on and won off a McKee kill.
The Bulldogs never had the lead in game four and would only get as close as three early, as the Roadrunners closed out the match.
Cal State Bakersfield hit an impressive .300 for the match, led by Kate McWhorter with 23 kills.
The homecoming game saw 1,402 fans enter the Save Mart Center, the largest crowd to witness a home volleyball match in 2007.
Fresno State plays local NAIA powerhouse Wednesday (Oct. 17) at 7 p.m. on the campus of FPU.
