Watson Leads Bulldogs Against Fresno Pacific

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State met Fresno Pacific at the Special Events Center on the FPU campus for the annual Exhibition match between the two teams on Wednesday (Oct. 17). The Sunbirds, the No. 1 ranked team in NAIA and undefeated at 21-0, defeated the Bulldogs in three, with games scores of 17-30, 20-30 and 18-30.
Game one was all the Sunbirds as they hit .378, led by Fabiana Leomil with eight kills on 10 attempts. Fresno State was led by Lexi Watson and Tairyn Rasmussen with three kills a piece.
The Bulldogs saw their first lead of the match in game two, and were up by as many as three at 8-5 when the Sunbirds went on a 7-0 run and took the lead for good behind the serving of Tarin Tartaglia.
Fresno Pacific continued to hit well in game three (.308) and easily took the game and the match.
Watson led the Bulldogs with eight kills. Tiffany Hess had 23 assists to lead the team and Lisa Gera added 18 digs.
Fresno Pacific hit .339 for the match and was led by Leomil with 16 kills.
Fresno State (5-16, 3-7) resumes Western Athletic Conference play on Monday (Oct. 22) as they travel to San Jose State (8-11, 2-6) for a 7 p.m. contest.
