Angel, Doverspike Lead Bulldogs at Sycuan Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. - Todd Angel and Grant Doverspike finished in the top-20 to conclude the Sycuan Collegiate Invitational. Angel and Doverspike led the `Dogs to an eighth place finish in the windy city of El Cajon, Calif., at the Willow Glen Course.
Fresno State (305-305-295 - 905) finished 41-over par behind Denver. The Bulldogs placed higher than fellow WAC opponent Hawaii, who fell to 13th place.
"Today was a much nicer day," said Mike Watney. "You can tell with the scoring it was better, we just didn't take advantage of it."
Angel and Doverspike tied for 16th place with a three round total of 8-over par 224. Doverspike shot the low round today for the Bulldogs with a 71. Brad Wyatt tied for 45th at 15-over par followed by Matt Ryan, who tied for 49th at 16-over. Matt Shaw finished 83rd. Michael Gideon and Chris Arnold played as individuals for the Bulldogs this week. Gideon shot 15-over 231 to tie for 45th and Arnold shot 19-over to tie for 72nd.
Wichita State (884) shot a low third round of 284 to surpass the host team San Diego State (890) on the leaderboard. Missouri placed in third place finishing 35-over par and Cal Poly and New Mexico State tied for fourth place with 900/+36.
Ryan Spears of Wichita State won the individual title after shooting the low in the third round with a 67.
The Bulldogs will take a week off before heading to the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif., on Nov. 5-7.
